About Grace UMC

Our Values

Grace's four value statements serve as pillars to guide our ministry and discernment.
  1. We embrace inclusiveness by inviting and accepting all people so that they can find Grace Church a place of hope, faith, and safety.
  2. We show compassion by inviting our community into authentic relationships so we can stand together in solidarity against injustice.
  3. We are on a journey of spiritual growth, helping others along the way, deepening our love towards a world that is filled with the love of God.
  4. We cherish our church family by welcoming and caring for people of all generations, races, cultures, sexualities, and genders, celebrating their beloved identities.

Our Pastors

Lead Pastor: Rev. Dr. Katie Nix

Rev. Dr. Katie Nix, or Pastor Katie as most of us call her, is our lead pastor. A proud St. Louis native (Hazelwood Central High School), Pastor Katie has a heart for bringing the message of God's love to the neighborhood and to young families in our community. She received her Master's from Princeton Theological Seminary and her Doctorate in Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. Always seen with a Dr. Pepper, Pastor Katie brings energy and excitement to the mission at Grace UMC. Her desire to share God's grace also takes her beyond the walls of our church, as a board member of Young Clergy Women International and as an adjunct professor at St. Paul School of Theology. Best of all, she has a Harry Potter scar on her forehead, but because of her red hair she is often mistaken for a Weasley. And in a true twist of irony, she is proud to be part of the Slytherin House! (If this last statement is confusing, you may want to check out the Harry Potter series at your local library.)

Pastor Katie's Life Verse: Luke 1:46-47

"My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior."

College Minister: Pastor Tina Reyes (she/her/ella)

Pastor Tina Reyes is our college/young professional pastor and pastor of LuMin Campus MinistryPastor Tina is a native Wisconsinite who has lived up and down the East Coast over the last 20 years. Prior to ministry, Pastor Tina worked in restaurants, as a flight attendant, an online school web page editor, tour guide, program instructor, and director of student ministries. While teaching middle school in Virginia, Pastor Tina answered the call to ministry and attended the Lutheran School of Theology in Philadelphia, where she graduated with her Master of Divinity in 2012. Pastor Tina was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Prior to moving to St. Louis, Pastor Tina served a congregation in New Jersey. Pastor Tina’s faith journey is grounded in her baptismal affirmation, especially striving for peace and justice. When she’s not meeting and engaging folks in faith and life, Pastor Tina enjoys cooking, reading, crafting, and birding. Pastor Tina also enjoys singing with ensemble groups and attending concerts and theater events. She looks forward to all the opportunities that St. Louis has to offer.

Pastor Tina's Favorite (Confirmation) Verse: Joshua 1:9 (NRSV)

"Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Ministries

Children

At Grace, we LOVE our kids and we cannot wait to welcome the little ones in your life as well! On Sunday mornings your children are welcome to stay in worship with you and utilize the activity bags or spend time on the 'prayground."

Our nursery is open for those who need a safe space to play, nap, or enjoy animal crackers. All of our volunteers are trained according to Safe Gathering practices by the United Methodist Church and have your child’s safety as their number one goal.  To reduce the risk of COVID transmission among children who are not yet vaccinated, arrangements have been made to ensure that the nursery area is well-ventilated.

We are also thrilled to offer two classes (PreK-2nd and 3rd-5th) on Sunday mornings at 9:30am to help our younger church members to learn how to make wise choices, build stronger relationships, and develop a deeper faith.

College/Young Professional

Grace UMC has always strived to build a deep relationship with the academic institutions that are a historic part of our neig hborhood. The culture and identity of raising up the next generation of leaders and pastors has long been celebrated at Grace and will continue to be a focus in the future vision of the church.

As sponsor and host of the United Methodist Campus Ministry (UMCM) and partner with LuMin St. Louis, we welcome undergraduates and graduate students from Washington University, St. Louis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis as well as young professionals in the area. If you are looking for a place where you can “Be You, Be Loved, and Belong!” then this is the community for you!
