Breaking Barriers

Juneteenth & Jackie

2-Day Community Event

BBQ Block Party & Joint Worship Service

June 18-19, 2022

75 years ago, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball. Driven by his Methodist faith to address injustice in the world, Jackie was supported by another Methodist and native St. Louisan - Branch Rickey (member of Grace UMC). Together they joined the long movement for justice and freedom that continues today. As we approach the holiday of Juneteenth, we invite you to continue the legacy of celebrating freedom and fighting for justice by celebrating Jackie Robinson and our unique connection to the story through Branch Rickey. This holiday of hope is a time to remember our role in liberation and help continue to shed the shackles of racism, inequity, and hatred. Our Methodist heritage calls us to work towards a community where all are loved and invited. Jackie Robinson is one voice in our history - let’s continue the good work together!
