SERVE

There are opportunities to serve others within Grace UMC, locally or with an international focus, that are listed in the weekly Pastorgram section in the "About Us" section on the Home Page.

Breitmayer Community Ministry

The Breitmayer Community Ministry was established in 1974 as a memorial to Douglas Breitmayer, minister of music at Grace for 14 years, who died far too young. Doug believed that each individual could make a difference in the lives of others.

Mission Statement of the Breitmayer Community Ministry:

We believe that God calls us to work for the community in which we live. To this end, the Breitmayer Community Ministry has been established by Grace United Methodist Church to:

  • Benefit the community by providing physical and emotional care, education, support, and leadership training without regard to gender, age, race, religion, or ability to pay for services.
  • To plan and work for the betterment of the community and its people through prayerful attention to changing human needs and careful stewardship of resources.

Since 2007, the main focus of this ministry has been a summer computer camp offered in conjunction with Computer Village. For a nominal fee, junior high and high school students learn computer software, hardware, and how to build their own computers. In fact, they each take home a computer at the end of the camp! We look for campers who do not have computers in their homes. Know anyone who might like this opportunity?   Specific information is posted yearly in March.

Food Pantry

The Grace Food Pantry is open every Tuesday from 9:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Nearly 100 clients are welcomed each week and provided with staples, fresh produce and meat choices, paper products, etc. The Food pantry is run by a group of dedicated volunteers which includes church members as well as volunteers from other churches and organizations. Volunteers are always needed for this vital service to our community. Please contact the church office for information regarding how to utilize this service. Secretary@graceumc-stl.org.

S.H.E.D. (Safe Housing for the Elderly and Disabled) Projects

Periodically, Grace participates in local SHED projects. Groups go to homes of the elderly or disabled and help with small projects. Often this group includes our college students.

Special Holiday Giving

  • Mitten Tree - Each December we “decorate” our mitten tree which stands in the back of the sanctuary. Mittens, gloves, socks and hats all make great decorations! These are distributed to various schools and organizations.
  • White Gift Sunday - One Sunday in December is designated White Gift Sunday at Grace. Worshipers are invited to bring new gifts for children and adults, all wrapped in white tissue paper. During the Children's sermon, the children collect the gifts and fill the Communion rail. The gifts are taken to the Christmas shop at Kingdom House.
