ministries > Mission and service
Jesus commanded his disciples to serve the poor and those alienated by society. We are committed to living out our faith through the discipline of regular service and interaction with the poor and those alienated by society today. Currently, as a community we commit a lot of our time and energy to serving the community through our Food Pantry, our summer computer school and our FREE college lunches.
Food Pantry
We serve hundreds of families every month! Offered weekly to the public on Tuesdays from 9:45-11:45 am. To volunteer or learn more, click here.
Computer Village
The Breitmayer ministry was established in 1974 as a memorial to Douglas Breitmayer, minister of music at Grace for 14 years, who died far too young. Doug believed that each individual could make a difference in the lives of others. The purpose of Breitmayer ministry revolves outreach to the core community which Grace United Methodist Church serves, the Skinker-Debaliviere community.
During the summer, a Computer Village offers computer courses for kids in the Skinker-DeBalivier neighborhood on software, hardware, and how to build your own computers. The Village meets every Monday and Wednesday from 10am-3pm starting in mid-June through the end of July.
FREE College Lunches
Grace is a welcoming place for college-aged people in our community. As part of this outreach, teams of volunteers cook lunch each Sunday during the school year at no cost to students. Lunches begin after the 10:30am worship service. All are welcome to join the college-aged ministry in this outreach. Email Laura Patterson to volunteer for a lunch team or with questions.
